The 2018 Honda Accord Named North American Car of the Year

Announced last month at the Detroit Auto Show, the new 2018 Honda Accord was named the 2018 North American Car of the Year. This midsize car went through major changes last year, and although it has been around for many years, this year’s model wowed everyone. With more cargo space, a nicer interior, and a turbo engine replacing the old V-6, the new Accord is faster, more efficient, and more comfortable than Honda’s previous models.

"Honda took a clean-sheet approach to reinventing America's most popular car, and we couldn't be prouder to receive this honor for the Accord as the North American Car of the Year," said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of the Automobile Division and general manager of Honda Sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "We're especially proud of the production associates in Ohio where the Accord has been built to the highest quality standards for over 35 years."
In order to receive a North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year Award, vehicles are judged on innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, and driver satisfaction. There are approximately 60 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada who come together each year to determine the winners.
You might be wondering, what’s new for the 2018 model?
Almost everything. The car has been completely redesigned to enhance the driving experience. Here are a few of the newer features integrated into this model.
  • The powertrains. Drivers can choose between an all-new 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The two-motor hybrid system has not been released yet, but this option will also become available to more eco-conscious drivers.
  • The infotainment system. Honda’s new infotainment system is called Display Audio. The setup is quicker, more attractive, and easier to use than older models. Physical buttons and Qi wireless-charging are also included.
  • Honda Sensing® Safety Package. This safety suite is now standard on all models—even the entry-level LX model. This package includes stop-and-go adaptive cruise control with low speed follow, lane keep assist with road departure mitigation, forward collision warning and collision mitigation braking systems, and traffic sign recognition. The good news is that now you don’t have to research certain models to see if you can afford these safety features.
